Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Adelanto, CA - Following a seven-game homestand that saw them post a 5-2 record, the Quakes did not receive as warm a welcome to start their first road trip of the season. The Quakes fell behind early and simply had too much ground to make up as they fell, 14-4, to the High Desert Mavericks at Mavericks Stadium on Thursday night.

Quakes starter Garrett Gould was roughed up for the second consecutive start, lasting just two-plus innings and allowing eight hits, eight runs (six earned), and a walk to balloon his season ERA to 13.50.

High Desert's five-run second inning knocked Gould out of the game after RBI singles from Jabari Blash, Anthony Phillips and Stefen Romero, a run-scoring throwing error and a sacrifice fly from Mavericks shortstop Chris Taylor.

The Mavericks (3-5) received a 4-for-5 night from first baseman Ji-Man Choi, who smacked three doubles, a triple and drove in a trio of runs. Also collecting three RBIs was the left fielder Blash, who went 2-for-5 with his second home run of the season coming in the seventh inning.

The Quakes (5-3) racked up ten hits, but failed to capitalize on their opportunities like their counterparts. High Desert batted .500 (9-for-18) with runners in scoring position, while the Quakes, on the other hand, went 1-for-12 in similar situations.

Despite getting outscored by ten, four Quakes notched multi-hit nights. Unfortunately for Rancho Cucamonga, only one hit went for extra bases. Noel Cuevas had two RBIs, bringing his total to six on the season. Angelo Songco brought his total to six as well, thanks to an RBI single in the fifth inning. Scott Wingo and Scott Schebler both enjoyed their first multi-hit games of the season.

The loss drops the Quakes to 5-3 on the season heading into the second game of a four-game set with High Desert. The Quakes return to Mavericks Stadium in hopes of evening the series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Ross Stripling (0-0, 0.00 ERA) takes the hill for the Quakes after pitching five scoreless innings in his first start on Sunday against Lake Elsinore. Mayckol Guaipe (0-1, 11.25 ERA) will start for High Desert.

Following the remainder of their seven-game road trip, the Quakes return to Rancho Cucamonga for a four-game series with High Desert starting on Thursday, April 18.
