Bakersfield Blaze News Release
The Bakersfield Blaze came home for the first time in 2013 trying to snap a skid, but the Stockton Ports, fresh off an extra-inning comeback the night before, dismantled the Blaze early, and went on to beat the home team 10-3.
In Bakersfield's most lopsided defeat of the early 2013 season, Stockton went to work in the first and never let up. With one out, Blaze starter Jonathan Moscot (L, 0-2) walked Antonio Lamas - the Ports second baseman who ended up reaching base in all five trips - and one out later local boy Dusty Robinson squeezed a two-run homer just inside the foul pole.
In the top of the 2nd, the Blaze got one back, with Kyle Waldrop smashing a deep drive over the wall in right for a solo homer, but Stockton did not let the Blaze enjoy it.
In the very next frame, the Ports sent eight men to the plate, scoring four times off Moscot, and going up comfortably 6-1.
The Blaze scored a single tally in the bottom of the inning on three singles and a Juan Duran sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to four, but they would get no closer the rest of the way.
Stockton added a run in the 4th and another in the 6th off reliever Jake Johnson, then two more in the 8th off Kyle McMyne, and despite a Yovan Gonzalez solo shot for Bakersfield in the 7th, the Ports would cruise to a 10-3 victory on Thursday night.
Sean Murphy (W, 2-0) picks up the win, his second in a row against the Blaze, going 7.0 innings and allowing three runs.
The two teams will lace it up and get back at it at 7:15pm on Friday night, with James Allen (0-1) going for the Blaze, and Tanner Peters (1-0) going for the Stockton Ports. A postgame Fireworks Show is scheduled for Friday night, so grab your tickets online at BakersfieldBlaze.com.
