Quakes lose fifth straight to 66ers

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After a heartbreaking loss on Sunday, the Quakes offense showed up early on Monday night against Inland Empire. With two outs in the 1st, Matt Sweeney clubbed his 8th home run of the year, a solo shot, to make it 1-0 Rancho. In the 2nd, Alberto Rosario tripled to right with two outs to score Clay Fuller to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead.

The 66ers bats woke up in the 3rd against Quakes starter Jayson Miller as he allowed five straight hits including an RBI triple, an RBI double and a two-run home run to Andres Perez to give the 66ers a 4-2 lead.

Rancho answered with an RBI single from Jeremy Moore to cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Inland Empire continued to swing the bats as Alex Garabedian doubled to lead off the inning and Johan Garcia followed with an RBI double to make it 5-3. After a sacrifice bunt, Elian Herrera doubled to right center to drive home Garcia to give the 66ers a 6-3 lead and knock Jayson Miller from the game after just 3.1 innings of work. Eddie McKiernan came in and got a strikeout and a line out to end the inning.

McKiernan retired the first five batters he faced before allowing a solo home run to Alex Garabedian to lead off the 6th inning to make the score 7-3. Inland Empire plated two more runs against McKiernan in the 7th as Preston Mattingly blasted a two-run homer to make the score 9-3.

The Quakes will continue their three game series against Inland Empire Tuesday. Right hander Jeremy Thorne will be on the mound for the Quakes against a pitcher to be determined for the 66ers. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
