JetHawks release schedule for 2010

Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - While the 2009 season still has two weeks to go, the Lancaster JetHawks are already preparing for the 2010 campaign, which will be the 15th season of professional baseball in the Antelope Valley. The JetHawks will open the 2010 season Thursday, April 8 on the road in Bakersfield. It will be the third straight season that the JetHawks will start the year away from Lancaster. The JetHawks will return to the Hangar for the home opener Monday, April 12 against Lake Elsinore. While the JetHawks promotional schedule will not be released until a later date, the JetHawks already have one promotion planned- its annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Spectacular, which will take place Sunday, July 4 against Inland Empire.

One feature of the 2010 schedule compared to the 2009 season is more of a balance in games between the two divisions. While the current season saw just one home and one road series against each Northern Division team, the JetHawks will play an additional series in 2010 against Visalia, Modesto, and San Jose. The Rawhide and the Giants will each make two visits to Lancaster while the JetHawks will make an extra visit to Modesto to play the Nuts.

The increase of balance means fewer games against the Southern Division. The JetHawks most common opponent will be the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, whom they will battle 29 times, including for a four-game series that will wrap up to end the season on Labor Day, September 6. The biggest in-division quirk in the schedule is that the JetHawks will play their closest geographic rival, the High Desert Mavericks, 16 times in the first half but for only one three-game series in the entire second half. The Mavs will make only two trips to Lancaster and will not play at the Hangar after May 24.

In fact, the JetHawks will play as many games against the Northern Division in the second half as they will their own division. After playing just eight games against Northern Division foes in the first half, 35 of the second half games will come against the North. The JetHawks will not see Stockton, Modesto, or San Jose until the second half of the year.

The longest homestands of the season will be four each of seven games, three of which fall in the first half. The longest road trip will be a mammoth 14-game swing from the middle to the end of August that will take the JetHawks north to Stockton before returning south for series at High Desert, Lake Elsinore, and Rancho Cucamonga.
