Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks struck right out of the gates for five runs and never looked back on Sunday evening at the Hangar. The JetHawks held on for a critical 6-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide to move within three games of the final wild card spot, and to stay within four of the High Desert Mavericks in the second half divisional race.

J.B. Shuck reached to open the game, and Ebert Rosario moved him to second on a perfectly executed hit and run. Jon Gaston then doubled to left field to score them both. Koby Clemens singled to right field before Marcos Cabral struck the big blow in the opening frame. Cabral drove a home run over the left field wall and the JetHawks were in front 5-0.

Leandro Cespedes kept the Rawhide scoreless for the first three innings before the Rawhide broke through in the fourth. After Kyle Greene doubled with one out, Brendan Duffy struck out but leadoff man Ollie Linton blooped a single to left to score Greene. They got three more in the fifth, the big blow a Greene two-run homer to right field.

The JetHawks got a huge insurance run in the seventh inning. Jordan Comadena led off the inning with his first professional extra base hit, a double to left. Three batters later, Ebert Rosario singled to right to score Comadena.

Fernando Abad came on in relief of Cespedes, and dazzled once again. The lefthander went three and two thirds innings scoreless and struck out five. He extinguished a two-on rally in the ninth with a strikeout and a double play.

The JetHawks hit the road tomorrow for ten games that will largely determine their postseason fate in 2009. They open a three-game set with the High Desert Mavericks Monday night at 7:05 PM. The radio broadcast can be heard live on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks .com beginning at 6:55 PM. They return to the Hangar for the final homestand of the year on Friday, September 4 when they host the Inland Empire Sixty Sixers for four.
