Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm snapped Rancho's two-game winning streak at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, taking over first place in the Second Half South Division standings with a 9-3 win over the Quakes on Friday.
Quakes' starter Red Patterson (1-1) endured his toughest night of the Quakes, as he was unable to escape the third inning, after the Storm knocked him around for six runs in a season-low 2 2/3 innings.
Lake Elsinore's Jonathan Galvez had a big night, clubbing two home runs, including a three-run shot in the first inning, putting the Storm up 3-0.
Jeudy Valdez, who had four hits on Thursday, torched the Quakes again on Friday, finishing with three hits and three RBIs, including a two-run single in the second, giving the Storm a 5-0 advantage.
Galvez took Patterson out to left again in the third, his tenth of the year and second of the game, making it 6-0.
Freddy Cabrera came out of the bullpen and while he did give up three runs (two earned) on the evening, he was able to give the Quakes 3 2/3 innings, allowing them to use a total of just two relievers out of the bullpen.
Dodgers' rehabbing infielder Casey Blake, in just his second rehab start, chipped in with a three-hit night, helping the Quakes get on the board in the fifth.
Trailing 7-0, Blake singled and eventually scored on Tony Delmonico's sac fly, making it 7-1 against Storm starter and eventual winner Nick Schmidt (2-2).
Trailing 8-1 in the sixth, Blake got the Quakes going, doubling home Ramon Jean to make it 8-2. Jake Lemmerman followed with an RBI single, plating Blake to make it 8-3.
That's as close as the Quakes would get though, as Cabrera was touched for another run in the sixth, as Reymond Fuentes took him deep to right-center, his third of the year, for a 9-3 lead.
Steve Smith pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to finish the night.
The Quakes (20-14, 58-46) and Storm meet for the final time in the regular season on Saturday night, finishing their four-game series at The Diamond. Andres Santiago (6-3) will face Storm righthander Jerry Sullivan (5-6) with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
On Wednesday, August 3rd, the Quakes return to The Epicenter to open a four-game series against Modesto. August 3rd will be another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark. Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...GO Quakes!
