Bakersfield Blaze News Release

The Blaze and Nuts went back and forth for almost 5 hours, but it was the Nuts who struck last, and defeated the Blaze 11-10 in 13 innings.

A marathon game featured 13 combined pitchers, 29 combined hits, and 21 combined runs, but the activity of feature occurred in the 13th.

In the top half, with Sheng-An Kuo pitching and the game in an 8-8 tie, the Blaze got a leadoff single from Kevin Coddington before Jorge Jimenez belted a 2-run shot to rightfield that gave the Blaze a 10-8 lead. Leuris Gomez (W, 3-2) was called upon to finish the top half, and he did so.

In the bottom half, Doug Salinas (L, 4-2) retired David Christensen on a strikeout to begin the inning, but then ran into trouble. A walk to Delta Cleary Jr. followed by a single for Josh Rutledge (who went a perfect 6-for-6 and reached base 7 times) put 2 runners aboard. Salinas fell behind Nolan Arenado 2-and-1, and tried to sneak a fastball past him, but Nolan put a big swing on the ball, slammed a walkoff 3-run blast to leftcenter, and the Nuts celebrated on the field.

The loss drops the Blaze into a tie with Modesto for the Wild Card spot, with tomorrow's final meeting of the season deciding who will leave the series with the Wild Card lead.

The game will be available on both radio and internet, radio on SmartTalk-1230AM, internet at BakersfieldBlaze.com - 6:50pm the pregame show, 7:05pm first pitch. Josh Ravin opposed Edwar Cabrera as the Blaze try to bounce back from a tough one.
