Touted Prospect Singleton to Join JetHawks

LANCASTER, CA - Jonathan Singleton, rated by Baseball America as the 41st best prospect in the game, will be joining the JetHawks after he was acquired by the Houston Astros in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. A native of Southern California, the hard-hitting outfielder/first baseman is expected to arrive in time for Sunday's game at Bakersfield. He will make his home debut Wednesday, August 3 when the JetHawks host Inland Empire at Clear Channel Stadium.
Just 19 years old, Singleton grew up in Long Beach and was selected by the Phillies in the eighth round of the 2009 draft out of Millikan High School. A left-handed hitter, Singleton has played mostly first base in his professional career, although this season he has also played 30 games in left field. He has spent the season with the Clearwater Threshers, the Phillies Advanced-Class A affiliate in the Florida State League. Known for his strong offensive ability, Singleton has hit .282 with nine home runs and 47 RBI this season. He also has a discriminating eye at the plate, leading to an on-base percentage of .386.
Singleton becomes the first JetHawks player to be ranked in the top 50 prospects by Baseball America since catcher Jason Castro in 2009.
His debut for the JetHawks Sunday night will be broadcast live online by CSN at JetHawks.com and on radio at 87.7 Kickin' Country. The Pre-Game Show will begin at 7:30.
