Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Stockton Ports won their seventh straight game, taking the opening game of a three-game series over the Quakes, with a 3-1 win at The Epicenter on Friday night.
Stockton starter Justin Marks (2-1) was solid, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings, in just his third start in a Ports' uniform.
Quakes' starter Kyle Hurst (1-3), making a spot-start for the scratched Matt Shoemaker, surrendered a two-run homer to Grant Green in the third inning, putting the Ports in front for good. Green's homer, his 14th of the year, made it a 2-0 game.
The Ports made it 3-0 in the fourth, as Manaurys Correa came on in relief and was immediately touched for a run. Michael Spina opened the inning by getting hit by a pitch, then moved to second on a wild pitch. Tyler Ladendorf's RBI single plated Spina for the three-run lead.
The Quakes got their one and only run of the night in the fifth, as Angel Castillo doubled, then scored on a Jon Townsend double, making it 3-1. Marks got Kevin Ramos on strikes for the second out, then got make Trout to ground out to keep the Quakes to just one run.
An Angel Castillo infield single in the seventh inning was the Quakes' only base runner over the final four innings, as the Rancho bats managed just five hits all night.
Stockton closer Paul Smyth recorded his 21st save of the year, working a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out Dillon Baird to end the game. With the loss, the Quakes (25-22, 64-53) fall back into a tie with High Desert at the top of the South Division Second Half Standings.
On Saturday night, the Quakes will look to get back on track, sending Garrett Richards (1-0) to the mound against Fabian Williamson (3-0). Quakes' players will be wearing throw-back Angels jerseys on Saturday night, as part of Angels' Appreciation Night at The Epicenter. The jerseys will be auctioned off throughout the game and will be presented to the winning fans immediately after the game in a special on-field presentation. The proceeds will benefit the Steven's Hope for Kids charity. Angels Appreciation Day will be capped with an incredible Post-Game Fireworks Display, thanks to KOLA 99.9. Game time is 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm.
