June 9, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Adelanto, Ca - Angel Castillo's two-run homer in the seventh inning put the Quakes ahead for good, as Rancho Cucamonga dropped High Desert on Wednesday night, winning 7-3 at Mavericks Stadium.
With one out and a runner aboard in the top of the seventh inning, Castillo ripped a Jake Wild (5-2) offering over the left-field wall for his fourth homer of the year, putting the Quakes up for good at 5-3.
The Quakes added a pair of runs in the eighth on Tyson Auer's RBI single and Eric Oliver's RBI groundout.
Jose Perez and Andrew Taylor combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, keeping the Mavericks off the scoreboard.
Auer put the Quakes on the board in the first, as his one-out solo homer to left, made it a 1-0 game, his second of the year.
The Quakes added two in the third, as Alexi Amarista had an RBI groundout and Gabe Jacobo had an RBI single, putting the Quakes in front at 3-0.
Quakes' starter Matt Shoemaker was sharp through the first four innings, striking out seven over four scoreless frames. Shoemaker ran into trouble later though, as he surrendered a two-out, two-run double to Dennis Raben in the fifth, then a two-out RBI single to Shaver Hansen in the sixth, as the Mavs tied the game at 3-3.
Castillo's homer in the seventh made a winner out of Shoemaker (5-3) though, as he allowed a total of three runs on eight hits over six innings. Shoemaker finished with eight strikeouts and two walks.
With Lake Elsinore's 4-2 loss to Inland Empire on Wednesday, the Quakes are now six back with ten games to go in the first half.
Rancho Cucamonga (34-26) look to make it three of four over the Mavs in this series, sending Orangel Arenas (0-0) to the mound against High Desert's Andrew Carraway (3-1). Game time on Thursday will be 7:05pm from Mavericks Stadium.
The Quakes return from their current seven-game road trip on Monday, June 14th, opening a six-game home stand with Grand Slam Monday. If a Quakes' player hits a Grand Slam on Monday night, then one Quakes' fan will win $1000. The upcoming home stand also includes a Terra Vista Animal Hospital "Bark in the Ballpark", a Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday, a $1 Family Feast Night and a Saturday Night Fireworks Spectacular!
