In the bottom of the ninth, Jose Medina led off by reaching on an error before Wendell Fairley drew a walk. After consecutive strikeouts of Joel Weeks and Perez, Ehire Adrianza blooped an RBI single into center field to bring San Jose to within 7-4. Flores was up next as the potential tying run, however he flied out to the warning track in right field to end the game.

Odle (6-2) suffered the loss for the Giants after surrendering five runs (four earned) on seven hits over five-plus innings of work. Odle struck out a season-high six and did not walk a batter.

Modesto starter Dan Houston (3-4) earned the win after limiting San Jose to three runs (two earned) on seven hits over six-plus innings. Houston walked four and struck out four.

The Giants initially took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Perez and Burriss each singled to begin the frame. Flores then bounced into a fielder's choice as Burriss was forced at second, however when Field's throw to first rolled away for an error, Perez scored to make it 1-0.

The Nuts immediately answered in the top of the second against Odle as Paulsen led off with a single before David Christensen doubled with two outs. Erik Wetzel then grounded a two-run single up the middle to give Modesto the lead.

The Nuts moved in front by a 3-1 margin in the top of the third inning when Field connected for a solo homer to left.

In the bottom of the third, Perez led off with a double, advanced to third on Burriss' groundout and then scored when Flores bounced out to first.
