Visalia's Late Comeback Spoils Parejo's Big Night

June 9, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

Freddy Parejo's banner night at the plate was spoiled when Visalia scored three runs in the top of the 9th to win a 12-10 see-saw battle over the JetHawks at Clear Channel Stadium Tuesday. Parejo went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored and became the fourth player in team history to hit for the cycle. He is the first JetHawk to hit for the cycle since Andy Green accomplished the feat at High Desert on Aug. 21, 2002.

Lancaster built an early lead thanks to a solo home run from Albert Cartwright in the bottom of the first and a solo shot from Parejo an inning later.

The JetHawks extended the lead to 4-0 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single from Cartwright.

Meanwhile, Patrick Urckfitz pitched well in his first professional start by tossing five scoreless innings. But things went south for Lancaster in the top of the sixth. Urckfitz gave up two runs, one of which was earned, and reliever Leandro Cespedes allowed three earned runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in just 2/3 of an inning. As a result, the Rawhide seized a 5-4 advantage.

After Visalia tacked on four more runs in the top of the eighth, the JetHawks rallied in the bottom of the frame. With two on and nobody out, Parejo smacked a two-run triple off Rawhide reliever Victor Capellan. Lancaster scored four more runs in the inning to take a 10-9 edge.

But the Rawhide struck back for three runs in the top of the ninth, including a pair of unearned runs, off Lancaster reliever Kyle Godfrey.

Trailing 12-10 in the bottom of the ninth, Parejo laced a double to deep center field to complete the cycle. But the JetHawks failed to score against Rawhide reliever Billy Spottiswood and Visalia claimed the victory.

With the win, the Rawhide improved to 29-30. The loss dropped Lancaster to 17-41.

The JetHawks will seek to snap its three-game losing skid when the two teams meet on Wednesday. Visalia is expected to start right-hander Chase Anderson (2-2, 2.52 ERA). Lancaster will counter with lefty Shane Wolf (3-4, 5.65). First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Tune in for all the live action beginning with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m. on www.jethawks.com/csn and News Talk 1380-AM.
