August 11, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Manny Flores fired seven shut-out innings, helping the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes take over sole possession of the top spot in the South Division, with an 8-0 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm, on Tuesday night at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore.

The victory, Rancho Cucamonga's league-leading ninth shutout of the year, puts the Quakes one game up on Lake Elsinore and one game up on High Desert in the South Division.

Flores (5-7) had his best outing all year, scattering four hits and matching his season-high with five strikeouts.

The Quakes gave him the early lead in the second, as Angel Castillo's infield single plated Gabe Jacobo for a 1-0 lead over Storm starter Anthony Bass (7-6).

A five-run fifth blew it open for the Quakes, as they jumped all over reliever Eric Gonzalez. Ikko Sumi started the fifth-inning barrage with an RBI single to right, driving in Castillo to make it 2-0. With the bases loaded and one out, Luis Jimenez singled home a pair of runs. On the play, left fielder Jeff Decker threw wildly to third base, as that allowed Mike Trout to score as well, giving the Quakes a 5-0 advantage. Jacobo capped the inning with an RBI double, as he drove home his team-leading 87th run of the year, making it 6-0.

The Quakes finished out the scoring in the seventh, getting a pair off of Storm reliever Gary Poynter. Jimenez scored on a throwing error to make it 7-0, before Dillon Baird capped the scoring with an RBI single, brining home Jacobo to make it 8-0.

Quakes' reliever Kyle Hurst came on for Flores in the eighth and turned in a couple of scoreless innings to lock down the win.

The Quakes (24-20, 63-51) will look to make it two in a row over the Storm, sending Orangel Arenas (5-2) to the mound, opposite Storm lefty Juan Oramas (6-1) on Wednesday. Game time from The Diamond in Lake Elsinore is 6:05pm.

The Quakes return to The Epicenter on Friday night, opening the home stand with game one of a three-game series against the Stockton Ports. The first 1,500 fans through the gates on Friday night will receive a Torii Hunter Bobblehead Doll, thanks to All-Star KIA and KFROG 95.1. Gates open at 6:05pm and game time is 7:05pm. Great seats are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or get them online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter on Wednesday night...Go Quakes!
