Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Rancho Cucamonga got back in the win column on Thursday night, opening their four-game series against Visalia with a come-from-behind 7-6 win over the first-place Rawhide at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga.
Yusniel Diaz continued his torrid hitting, recording a three-hit game, including the go-ahead two-run single as part of Ranchos five-run third.
The Rawhide struck first in the first inning against Quakes' starter Josh Sborz. Colin Bray hit a one-out triple for his first extra-base hit of the season, and scampered home on a ground out by Rudy Flores to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
Visalia scored two more in the second inning, after Dawel Lugo reached on an error by first baseman Matt Beaty, and then advanced to third base on a Tyler Baker double. Lugo and Baker both scored on a two-out Victor Reyes single to make it 3-0 Rawhide.
Rancho was able to get on the board in the second inning, after Matt Beaty led off with a walk and went first-to-third on a single by Diaz. Josh Taylor's two-out wild pitch brought home Beaty to cut Visalia's lead to 3-1.
The Quakes' bats came alive in the third inning, when they scored five runs all with two outs. Erick Mejia led off with a single, and advanced to third base on a pair of groundouts. Mejia was then singled home by Kyle Garlick, who went first-to-third on a single by Beaty. Beaty then stole second base, to give Rancho two runners in scoring position. Diaz continued his hot hitting by singling home both Garlic and Beaty to give Rancho their first lead of the night, at 4-3. It was Diaz's 12th and 13th RBIs of the season, which is the team lead. Diaz then stole second base, and Joey Curletta knocked him in with an RBI single to make it 5-3 against Visalia starter Josh Taylor (0-2). Paul Hoenecke doubled home Diaz to make it 6-3 and cap the five-run third.
Rancho got their final run in the sixth, thanks to Mejia's sac fly, making it a 7-3 game.
The Rawhide got three back in the seventh, as Sborz started to run out of gas. Dawel Lugo homered with one out to make it 7-4. After Sborz walked Tyler Baker, Ericson Leonora parked one over the left-center field fence, making it a one-run game at 7-6. Sborz (1-1) got out of the seventh by retiring Victor Reyes on a ground ball, then turned it over to the bullpen.
Joe Broussard worked around a pair of one-out base-runners in the eighth, while Karch Kowalcyzk did the same in the ninth, using a double-play ball off the bat of Cody Regis to end the game and notch his first save of the year.
?Trevor Oaks (1-1) will throw for Rancho (10-5) on Friday night, while the Rawhide will go with Ethan Elias (0-1) in game two of the series.
