Lancaster JetHawks News Release
ADELANTO, Calif. - The JetHawks hit a pair of first inning home runs and led most of the way, but the High Desert Mavericks rallied late to take the series opener, 7-5 on Thursday night at Heritage Field.
After the JetHawks hit just one home run in their first 11 contests, Bobby Boyd went deep to lead off the game, his second career home run. Two batters later, Nick Tanielu hit his first of the season. Lancaster added another run in the inning on an error.
With the JetHawks up 3-1, Jason Martin led off the third inning with a triple. Ramon Laureano followed with a sacrifice fly. High Desert responded with a single tally in the bottom of the inning, but the JetHawks got the run right back in the fourth on a RBI double by Kristian Trompiz.
The Mavericks crept closer with a run in the bottom of the sixth. The decisive blow came on one swing of the bat in the seventh. With two out, Scott Heineman hit a three-run homer to give High Desert its first lead of the game, one that they would not relinquish. It was Heineman's first home run of the season. Juremi Profar provided the Mavericks some breathing room with a solo shot in the eighth.
Akeem Bostick (0-1) suffered the loss in relief for the JetHawks. He allowed all three High Desert home runs. Edgardo Sandoval made his JetHawks debut and struck out the only hitter he faced. Adam Quintana (1-1) surrendered just one hit over three shutout innings to earn the win. Joe Filomeno pitched the final two innings to pick up his first save.
The JetHawks (5-7) and Mavericks (11-4) continue their four-game series tomorrow night in Adelanto. Trent Thornton (0-0) will start for Lancaster against David Ledbetter (1-1). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
