Danville Dashers News Release
Danville, IL - The Port Huron Prowlers came into the David S. Palmer arena with loads momentum, after scoring four goals in the final period of their contest last night against the Dayton Demolition. However, the Dashers also extended their win streak to five games last night after a win against the Brewster Bulldogs. With both teams coming in hot, we expected this to be a fun contest, and it was just that.
After watching one of the most up-tempo first periods between two hockey teams that I have ever seen, both teams went into the locker room tied at zero.
"We started off well, both teams started off well really, it was a very faced pace hockey game and having three games in three days seemed to hurt us as we got tired down the stretch."said Foreward Justin Levac, when asked about the tempo of the contest.
The first half of the second period was as up-tempo, and high pace for both teams, but after the 10 minute media timeout, the wheels just seemed to fall off for the Dashers. They surrendered three goals in a nine minute stretch, and found themselves down three to zero after two periods. Skinner, Vanwysberghe, and Soskin scored in the second period for Port Huron respectively. Matt Fuller assisted on two of the three goals for Port Huron.
The Dashers stopped the bleeding in the third period, and even attempted to mount a comeback. They cut into the Prowlers lead when Rock Einersen tapped in a rebound from the side of the net, that Prowlers goaltender Curtis Martinu thought he had controlled after a hard wrist shot from Gehrett Sargis. The tap in cut the Port Huron lead to 3-1.
With 2:46 to go in the game, Danville trailing by two goals, Dustin Skinner went to the penalty box for interference and gave the Dashers a late power play opportunity. Martinu shined in net for the Prowlers the entire nigh, and nothing changed, and he came up big on the Port Huron penalty kill. The Dashers would go on to drop their first contest of the season, 3-1 being the final.
"It was a good hockey game, and it should have ended up 1-0, but we just came out on the wrong end of it. We made two mistakes, and you just can't make mistakes to good hockey teams. We never quit, and I liked that out of our guys. This was the first time we have faced adversity on the season, so I really liked that out of my guys.", said Coach Steve Harrison.
"It's our first loss of the season, and we will move on from it. Last season, we started very poorly and faced the adversity head on, and that mentality is what allowed us to finish so hot, and go far in the playoffs.", added Levac when asked about building off of tonights loss.
The Dashers are next in action at the David S. Palmer Arena tonight (Sunday), as they take on the Dayton Demolition at 5:05.
