They didn't make it easy, but the Port Huron Prowlers held off the Mentor Ice Breakers for a 4-3 victory on Saturday night.

One of the newest Prowlers, Brandon Contratto, got the scoring early when he beat Frankie McClendon five-hole to put the Prowlers up 1-0.

Dalton Young scored what may have been the easiest goal of his career when banked a pass off of the back boards and then off of the back pads of McClendon into the net, giving Port Huron a 2-0 lead.

Just minutes later it would appear that the Prowlers were opening the floodgates, when Larri Vartianen put the dangles on both a Mentor defender and goalkeeper, roofing a backhanded shot and extending the lead to 3-0.

The second period was less exciting, with both teams each scoring once. Mike Moroso continued his hot streak for the Prowlers, and Steven Fowler for the Ice Breakers.

The Ice Breakers would claw back in the final frame. Jiri Pestuka found twine under three minutes into the period.

Then in the final moments, during a Mentor power play, McClendon would come to the bench for an extra attacker. This would prove wise and a deflected clearing attempt would go right to the stick of Dominic Horvath, and ultimately in the back of the net with 23 seconds left on the clock.

However, the Prowlers would hold on in the waning moments, securing a 4-3 victory.

Port Huron has captured all six possible points this weekend, and will look to go nine for nine tomorrow afternoon when the Danville Dashers come to town. Puck drop will be at 3:00.
