Prior Strikes Out Five in Chiefs Loss

Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL - Making his second rehab start for the Peoria Chiefs, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Mark Prior struck out five and allowed one run in five innings of work as the Chiefs fell to the Fort Wayne Wizards 2-0 in front of a crowd of 6,838 Saturday night at O'Brien Field.

With the game still scoreless in the top half of the fourth, Seth Johnston and Nic Crosta led off the inning and recorded back-to-back doubles to put the Wizards up 1-0. That would prove to be the only run Fort Wayne needed all night.

With Prior watching from the dugout, Jesus Yepez took over to start the sixth inning. The Wizards did get some insurance that inning when they used the long ball to take a two-run lead. Crosta, already with an RBI, tallied his second with a towering home run to left.

The Chiefs never really got anything going offensively. They out hit the Wizards 6 to 5 but never had a runner get past second base all game long.

Prior went five innings and allowed one run on three hits. He didn't walk anybody and he struck out five hitters. The rehabbing right-hander fired 59 pitches total, 43 of those were strikes. Yepez came on to relieve Prior and went the rest of the way. He allowed just the homer in four innings of work. He gave up just two hits and struck out three. Stevie Delabar picked up the win, his second against the Chiefs this year, tossing 6 2/3 shutout innings allowing five hits and striking out six Chiefs' hitters. John Madden came on in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.
