Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA -- The Tornadoes offense (outside of Patrick Perry) remained silent for a second straight night and the Nashua Pride scored early and often off Mike Meagher to coast to 6-2 victory over Worcester at Hanover Insurance Park on Thursday night.
The Pride used a solo home run by former Tornado Austin Wasserman in the 2nd inning and a three-run blast by Luis Rodriguez in the 3rd to jump out to a 4-0 lead. RBI hits by John Ramistella and Olmo Rosario in the 4th made it 6-0. Mike Meagher (3-3) coming off a one-hit victory over Atlantic City, struggled mightily tonight, allowing all 6 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks.
Meanwhile, the Tornadoes bats failed to get going against righty Eiji Yano (1-1) who allowed just 2 hits in 5 shutout innings. The Tornadoes finally cracked the scoreboard in the 6th inning on a two-out, two-run home run by Patrick Perry off former Tornado Steve Palazzolo that made it 6-2. Perry, who also added a double in the game, has 6 consecutive multi-hit games and drove in all 5 runs that Worcester scored in the final two games of the series against Nashua, both losses. Worcester would get great work out of the bullpen, as Matt Salvato and Eddie Pena combined on 5 shutout innings of relief, but the bats could get no closer than the 6-2 final.
Yano (1-1) picked up his first win as a member of the Pride and Meagher (3-3) took the loss. "El Guapo" Rich Garces pitched around a one-out error in the 9th to record his 10th save of the season. The game was a sloppy one, featuring 6 errors (4 committed by Nashua) and two men picked off base for the Tornadoes. An additional two Worcester baserunners were caught off second base on non-force plays. The Tornadoes will try to get back on track on Friday night when they welcome the first place New Jersey Jackals to town for the first of a four-game wraparound weekend series. Righty Matt Weagle (0-1) is scheduled to make the start for Worcester and he will be opposed by New Jersey righty Joel Bennett (0-0). First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
