Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release

TUCSON - The Sugar Skulls bounced back in a big way last Saturday against Northern Arizona, and they'll look to carry that momentum over into their matchup against Duke City.

The first time these two teams met this season in New Mexico, the Skulls lost a close one by a score of 52-57. It was a three-point game when Tucson attempted a field goal to tie it and force overtime, but the snap went over their heads and Duke City got the safety and secured a five-point win as time expired.

Points Galore

The Sugar Skulls are first in the IFL in points per game at 54.4, passing the Arizona Rattlers (51.8) this week after their 72-point outburst.

Tucson is coming off an impressive offensive performance where they scored a franchise-best 72 points in their victory over the Northern Arizona Wranglers. They also allowed 62 points to the Northern Arizona Wranglers, which was a franchise-best for them (NAZ) despite the loss.

Quarterback Daquan Neal had yet another monstrous outing, totaling 7 touchdowns (four passing, three rushing) in the win over Northern Arizona.

Defending the Boneyard

The Skulls are 1-1 at home so far, with a heartbreaking loss to the Strike Force and the thrilling win over the Wranglers under their belt. They will look to improve to 2-1 at home in a crucial Western Conference matchup with playoff-seeding implications on the line.

They'll face a Duke City team that has won 2 of their last 3 games, including a one-point loss to the Frisco Fighters. After a slow 0-3 start an injury to their starting quarterback Nate Davis, Duke City has restored itself on both ends through the impressive play by Ramone Atkins who has 16 touchdown passes across just four games.

DL Ronald Collins had a two-sack, five-tackle game last week, and they'll need his disruption up front to slow down the Duke City attack as Tucson looks to improve their defense.
