WORCESTER, MA - Massachusetts Pirates defensive back Lukas Denis has been selected as the Indoor Football League's Defensive Player of the Week for Week seven for his play in a 36-22 victory over the Iowa Barnstormers at Phoenix Field at the DCU Center.

Against Iowa, Denis had 11 tackles, including one for a loss, two interceptions and a pass broken up.

His first interception came on the first play of the fourth quarter with Massachusetts leading 28-16. The Barnstormers were looking to score, facing a third down and one at the Pirate's six yard line. Quarterback Darius-James Peterson's pass intended for Kentrez Bell was deflected by Pirates' defensive back Khalid Wooten and was intercepted in the end zone by Denis.

On Iowa's next possession Denis repeated the result as on first and ten at the Massachusetts' nine, Peterson was once again looking for Bell in the end zone. Denis undercut the route and secured his second pick of the night.

For Denis, who played collegiately for the Eagles of Boston College, it was his third interception of the season. The 5'11", 185 lb. native of Everett, MA had an interception for a touchdown vs. the Bismarck Bucks in week five.

During his four years playing for Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Denis appeared in 40 games, made 139 tackles, had one tackle for a loss, one half sack, forced three fumbles and notched nine interceptions.

Denis finished his junior season of 2017 tied for second nationally with seven interceptions and was 17th in the nation with 10 passes broken up. That year he also had a career high with 83 tackles and two forced fumbles. He also set personal bests with a 13 tackle performance against second ranked Clemson and had two interceptions against Central Michigan. At season's end he earned Second Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and was named a Second Team Walter Camp Foundation All-American.

As a senior he scored his only touchdown, a 59-yard "pick-six" in a home game against UMass. Denis was selected and took part in the East-West Shrine Game.

In 2019, the former ESPN Boston 2014 Defensive Player of the Year and Massachusetts Prep Stars Defensive Player of the Year from Everett High School signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
