Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release

TUCSON - The Tucson Sugar Skulls are fresh off a massive comeback win on the road in Vegas last weekend. They will look to carry that momentum over into this weekend's matchup against the Duke City Gladiators.

Kickoff time is set for 6:05 pm local time at Tucson Arena. A win would secure them (for now) the 3rd seed at minimum, or possibly move them into a tie for 2nd with the Rattlers if they lost to the Panthers on Sunday.

Comeback Skulls

The Sugar Skulls pulled off an improbable comeback win in dramatic fashion in Vegas against the Knight Hawks last week. They rallied from a 14-point deficit with less than 9 minutes left in the game by scoring fifteen straight points as the Knight Hawks failed on what would've been a game-winning field goal.

Tucson Tuff

The Sugar Skulls currently hold a disappointing 1-3 home record, including a double OT loss to San Diego and a 2-point loss to the first-place Panthers the last time they were in the Boneyard on May 27th.

They have taken care of business on the road, however, boasting an impressive 4-1 record. They will need to protect their home field in order to make their 3rd playoff appearance in 4 seasons of action, and that starts against the Duke City Gladiators this week.

The Sugar Skulls have played well against the Gladiators in Tucson, taking wins in all three meetings between the teams in Arizona. The Sugar Skulls will look to keep the streak going this weekend.

Gladiator Report

Duke City comes into Tucson with a 4-6 record on the season, including a massive upset win against the Wranglers, 47-40, the week before last. In their last contest against Bay Area, they fell short by 17, allowing 69 points to the top team in the Western Conference.

The Gladiators won their last contest against the Skulls in Albuquerque on May 13th by a final score of 56-49 led by Charles McCullum's 5 touchdowns (4 passing, 1 rushing).

The Tucson Sugar Skulls currently lead the all-time series against the Duke City Gladiators 4-2. They are 3-0 in Tucson against them and 1-2 in Albuquerque.
