Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10 when they take on Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Swope Soccer Village. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT with a live stream available on SportingKC.com and tickets available via 249d80dd20883273e69b49556 Ticketmaster.
The Rangers head into the matchup holding a 10-10-6 record (36 pts.) and currently sit in the seventh of eight playoff positions in the Western Conference. The Rangers will conclude their five-game homestand against Tulsa on Saturday, having gone 2-1-1 in four home contests since Aug. 21.
The only defeat in that run came in the side's last game against Rio Grande Valley FC on Sept. 3. SPR entered the contest on the back of home wins over LA Galaxy II and San Antonio FC, but were outmatched by RGV who took a 2-0 victory at Swope Soccer Village after goals in either half from Ruben Luna and TJ Casner.
Tulsa Roughnecks FC have posted a 5-17-4 (19 pts.) record this season and are rooted to the foot of the Western Conference. The Roughnecks are winless in their last six games, going 0-5-1 since a 2-1 victory over Arizona United SC on July 30 and are the only team in the West mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Tulsa did snap a five-game losing streak in their last game, playing out a 1-1 tie with Real Monarchs SLC on Sept. 3.
The Roughnecks took the lead in the ninth minute of that game through Cristian Mata, but the Monarchs hit back before the break through recent Real Salt Lake Homegrown signing Ricardo Velazco as the game finished all square.
The Rangers are 2-0-0 in their inaugural season against Tulsa, claiming 2-1 wins on April 2 and May 14. The two sides were scheduled to meet again on Aug. 6 at ONEOK Field, but the game was postponed to Sept. 21 after heavy rain caused the field to become unplayable.
Saturday's match is sponsored by Vatterott College and the first 1,000 fans inside Children's Mercy Victory Field will receive co-branded mini soccer balls to take home as part of the festivities.
