Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Kickers (12-6-8) travel to take on Louisville City FC (15-4-8) this Saturday, September 10. The match will be broadcast live from Louisville Slugger Field through the league's official Match Center, uslsoccer.com/match-center, at 7:30 p.m.
Richmond and Louisville conclude the two-game regular season series this Saturday, having last met on May 21 when a defensive battle allowed just four shots each, resulting in a scoreless draw at City Stadium.
Swapping home field advantage this week, Louisville return home following a successful road trip, edging FC Montreal 1-0 and earning a critical three points. Midfielder Aodhan Quinn was named to the USL Team of the Week after tallying the lone goal while a staunch defense posted their second shutout in as many games.
The Kickers enter the weekend on a 10 game unbeaten streak following a 1-1 midweek draw against the Charleston Battery on August 31. After securing a spot in the USL Playoffs four days earlier, the Kickers took the lead early in the second half when Anthony Grant notched his third goal of the season but his efforts were annulled with 20 minutes remaining in regulation when the Kickers conceded the equalizer.
With three weeks remaining in the USL regular season, the tightly contested playoff race continues with just 11 points separating six teams. Having clinched a USL Playoffs berth, the Kickers and Louisville are now vying for a top four finish and guaranteed home field advantage for the first round. Louisville currently resides in second place with 53 points with the Kickers trailing by nine points in fifth place with a game in hand.
Following Saturday's road trip, the Kickers return to City Stadium to host their final two regular season home games, first taking on the Charlotte Independence on Wednesday, September 14, before the regular season home finale against the Charleston Battery on Saturday, September 17. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com.
