Preview: Swope Park Rangers at Tulsa Roughnecks FC
August 5, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers are back in action this Saturday, Aug. 6 with a road matchup against Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, Okla. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and a live stream will be available on SportingKC.com
The Rangers enter the weekend holding a 8-8-5 (29 pts.) record after going unbeaten in four games for the first time in franchise history. After playing to a tie in Colorado Springs, the Rangers beat both Orange County and San Antonio FC at home before drawing 1-1 with Saint Louis FC on Wednesday.
In Wednesday's game, forward Diego Rubio made his debut for the club on loan from Sporting KC and it took 34 minutes before he was on the scoresheet, putting the Rangers 1-0 up at halftime. Saint Louis responded in the second half and won a penalty in the 63rd minute that was converted by Irvin Herrera as the two sides shared the points.
Tulsa are currently the USL Western Conference's basement team, having gone 5-13-3 (18 pts.) this season and sit in 15th place. The Roughnecks have seen an upturn in form recently, claiming two wins in their last four games. On Thursday, Tulsa fell 2-1 at home to Orange County Blues FC. Despite taking the lead in the first half through leading scorer Sammy Ochoa, Tulsa conceded two goals early in the second period to Richard Chaplow and Trevin Caesar as Orange County took all three points.
The Rangers have won both previous meetings between the two clubs by a 2-1 scoreline. On April 2, goals from Dane Kelly and Nansel Selbol saw SPR claim victory in their first-ever road game, before a Tyler Pasher brace was enough for the Rangers to seal the three points at Swope Soccer Village on May 14. The two sides will conclude their season series in Kansas City on Sept. 10.
