Preview: Storm Set for Weekend Series against Phantoms

Youngstown, OH. - The Tri-City Storm look to build off of Tuesday's road win over the Western Conference leading Waterloo Black Hawks in tonight's opening game of the weekend against the Youngstown Phantoms. The Storm play Youngstown on the road again tomorrow night before returning home to the Viaero Center for a battle with the Fargo Force on Saturday, January 25th. Puck drop for tonight's game is set for 6:05pm CT.

Tri-City (16-13-3-2) has won six of its last eight games including a 4-3 road win over the Waterloo Black Hawks on Tuesday at Young Arena in Waterloo, IA. Colby Ambrosio netted two 2nd period goals, Joey Cipollone scored in his return to the team, and Mitchell Miller scored the game winning goal in the 3rd period. Ambrosio now has an eight-game point streak and has recorded at least one point in twelve of the Storm's last fourteen games. In Tuesday's win, Tri-City climbed to 2nd place in the Western Conference standings. Tonight's game is Tri-City's first game at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, OH since the team defeated the Phantoms 2-1 in overtime on January 20th, 2018. Last season, Tri-City swept the Phantoms in the two game season series. This year, Tri-City and Youngstown battle three times in the regular season. Earlier this year, in Tri-City's 2nd game of the season at the 2019 USHL Fall Classic, Youngstown defeated the Storm by a final score of 5-2. Through the first 34 games of the regular season, scoring leaders for Tri-City include; Colby Ambrosio (19), Benji Eckerle (13), Nick Portz (11), Matthew Knies (8), Nick Capone (5), and Cole McWard (5). Tonight's game is the middle game in the Storm's three game road trip.

Youngstown (13-14-4-1) has won just two of its last ten games entering tonight's home game against the Tri-City Storm. In Youngstown's last game played, the Phantoms scored three 3rd period goals to force overtime against Team USA. In overtime, Trevor Kuntar scored the game winning goal to give Youngstown a 6-5 overtime win over Team USA. Saturday's game was the beginning of a six game homestand at the Covelli Centre for the Phantoms. When the homestand concludes against Green Bay on Sunday, January 26th, the Phantoms' will have played eight of its last nine games on home ice. Over the past five years in head to head matchups Youngstown holds a 3-4-2-0 record against the Storm. Youngstown is 6-4-2-1 when outshooting opponents in regular season games this year. Tri-City's record in such games is 13-7-3-1. Through thirty-two games played in the regular season, scoring leaders for the Phantoms include; Trevor Kuntar (23), John Beaton (11), Matthew Cassidy (7), Reilly Funk (6), and Yusaku Ando (6).
