Saginaw Spirit News Release
SAGINAW, MI - On Thursday night, the Saginaw Spirit must win to continue their best-of-seven series with the first-place Erie Otters. The Spirit fell to the Otters 6-3 on Tuesday night at The Dow Event Center. Mike Davies, Connor Brown, and Mitchell Stephens scored for the Spirit in the losing effort.
Erie scored first for the third consecutive game on Tuesday when Christian Girhiny was able to tip a loose puck off the right pad of Evan Cormier at 2:53 of the first. The Otters goal came on their first shot. Taylor Raddysh made it 2-0 at 4:36 scoring his second goal of the series. The Spirit rallied, scoring consecutive goals from Mike Davies and Connor Brown to even the score. Before the end of the period, Erie had replenished its two-goal lead on tallies from Alex DeBrincat and Kyle Maksimovich.
Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome scored in the middle frame for the Otters to extend their lead to 6-2. DeBrincat and Strome combined for six points in the hockey game.
Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Mitchell Stephens scored his first of the playoffs to bring the Spirit within three goals. Head coach Moe Mantha pulled Evan Cormier for an extra attacker late in the game to try and get the Spirit closer, but the Otters shut the door and held on for a 6-3 win.
Erie Otters goaltender and Saginaw native Devin Williams left Game Three in the second period after an apparent lower body injury sustained in a collision with Spirit forward Artem Artemov. Williams practiced Wednesday and is questionable for Game Four.
Spirit forward Mike Davies and defenseman Michael Holmes both sustained upper body injuries in Game Three. Holmes returned to action in Game Three while Davies remained in the locker room. No update has been given on their status for Game Four.
