
Preview: Kingston Visits Flint Sunday for 2nd Annual "Firebirds Trick-Or-Treat Night"

Flint, Mich. - After posting back-to-back victories through two games this weekend, the Firebirds look to continue their winning-ways Sunday afternoon as Flint hosts the Kingston Frontenacs for the 2nd annual "Firebirds Trick-or-Treat Night." Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. (ET) at the newly renovated Dort Federal Event Center in Flint, Mich.
The Firebirds hold an impressive 6-1-0-0 record on home-ice in Flint after earning a 4-1 victory over the CHL's fourth-ranked Windsor Spitfires Saturday night. Flint is currently on a two-game winning streak while the Kingston Frontenacs have lost two straight. Despite outshooting the Saginaw Spirit 33-13 Saturday night, Kingston fell 3-2 in overtime. Kingston has the second best penalty kill in the OHL, operating at an 89.1% efficiency.
The Firebirds and Frontenacs will meet for the first game of two contests this season after Kingston won both games last campaign. The Frontenacs won the first game on Jan. 15, 7-1 at the Rogers K-Rock Centre before winning the rubber match on Mar. 5, 7-2 at the Dort Federal Event Center.
Spend this Sunday afternoon trick-or-treating in a fun, safe and dry environment with the Flint Firebirds Hockey Club as special Halloween festivities are slated for the contest. There will be several fun promotions on tap for the Flint Firebirds game vs. the Frontenacs. Adults and kids are encouraged to dress up for the costume contest and on-ice costume parade, there will be trick-or-treating throughout the arena, a Scooby Doo Bounce House and other fun promotions will take place during the duration of the game. Children (12 and under) that are wearing a costume will receive free admission to the game if accompanied by a paying adult. (Limited to one child ticket per adult)
Sunday is also a "Firebirds Family Four Pack Night" featuring 4 Silver Level Tickets, 4 Large Pizza Slices, 4 medium soft drinks, 2 game night magazines and 1 parking pass.... a $102 value for $69 with advance purchase. Single game tickets for the Flint Firebirds 2016-17 season are $12 for Bronze, $15 for Silver, $19 for Gold and $25 for VIP seating. Players to Watch:
Flint Firebirds (7-4-0-1, 6th in Western Conference): Everett Clark has scored three goals in the previous two contests and has six points (4G, 2A) in nine games this season. After scoring the game-winning goal Friday night in Sault Ste. Marie and earning an assist yesterday vs. Windsor, defenseman Mathieu Henderson is on a five-game point streak. Henderson has 11 points (2G, 9A) in 12 games this season. Ryan Moore recorded an assist against the Spitfires last night, increasing his point total to 22 (10G, 12A), and is second in the league scoring list. Nicholas Caamano (Dallas Stars) is second on the team with six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in 12 games played. Third on the team is Kole Sherwood (Columbus Blue Jackets), who picked-up an assist against Windsor and has five goals and eight assists on the season. Luke Kirwan scored the game-winning goal against Windsor last night and has seven goals and nine points in nine games played.
Between-the-pipes, Garrett Forrest is 3-2-0-0 and shut the door Saturday vs. the Spitfires. Forrest made 23 saves on 24 Windsor shots and is sporting a 2.11 GAA and a .930 SAV%. Connor Hicks has 3-1-0-1 record with a 4.25 GAA, and a .863 SAV%.
NHL: The Firebirds currently have two players that have signed contracts with NHL clubs. Forward Kole Sherwood signed a three-year NHL contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets (July 2015) and defenseman Jalen Smereck signed a three-year NHL contract with the Arizona Coyotes (October 2016). Flint's Nicholas Caamano was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the most recent NHL Draft in June 2016. Along with Caamano, Sherwood and Smereck, four more Flint Firebirds competed in NHL training camps this fall: Everett Clark (St. Louis Blues), Connor Hicks (Detroit Red Wings), Luke Kirwan (Detroit Red Wings) and Alex Peters (Carolina Hurricanes).
Samuel Duchesne, Jake Durham, Fedor Gordeev and Jack Phibbs are first-time eligible players to be selected in the NHL Draft in June 2017.
Kingston Frontenacs (4-6-1-0, 8th in Eastern Conference): Rookie Linus Nyman is tied with Flint's Ty Dellandrea for sixth among all OHL rookies with eight points (5G, 3A) in 11 games this season. Nyman is coming off a two-goal performance Saturday against the Spirit. Second on the Frontenacs' roster is Jason Robertson who has three goals and four assists in 11 games played. Rookie Nathan Dunkley is third on the team with two goals and four assists in 11 games.
In net, Jeremy Helvig (Carolina Hurricanes) has a 4-3-1-0 record, leads the OHL with two shutouts in 8 games, is fourth among OHL goalies with a 2.50 GAA and holds a .916 SAV%. Rookie Mario Peccia is 0-3-0-0 and played Saturday night in Saginaw. Peccia made 10 saves on 13 shots, has a 4.03 GAA and a .816 SAV%.
NHL: The Frontenacs have four players that have been drafted by NHL clubs: Lawson Crouse (Arizona Coyotes), Stephen Desrocher (Toronto Maple Leafs), Warren Foegele (Carolina Hurricanes) and Jeremy Helvig (Carolina Hurricanes).
