Flint, Mich - The Flint Firebirds wrap-up a five-game home stand Sunday afternoon against the Windsor Spitfires. Puck drop is set for 4pm at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint.
After recording a 7-3 victory over the Peterborough Petes Saturday night, the Firebirds are 4-1 on home-ice this season and have won three of their last four games. Windsor has dropped their last two games, including a 5-1 loss to Peterborough on Thursday night. The Spitfires are 3-1 on the road this season. Last campaign, Flint posted at 2-3-1-0 record against the defending CHL Memorial Cup champions, with both wins coming on home-ice at the Dort Federal Event Center.
Flint's Maurizio Colella is on a six-game point streak, including a five-game goal-streak. Colella is tied for the Firebirds' lead in points with 14 (7G, 7A) in 10 games. Ryan Moore also has 14 points and is in the midst of a six-game point-streak, notching four goals and eight assists in that time. Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars) has four points (1G, 3) in his last two games. Ty Dellandrea is currently on a four-game point-streak and has recorded at least one point in eight of the 10 games this season. Hunter Holmes is averaging a point-per-game through the last five.
With goaltender Garrett Forrest's 28-save effort last night, he now holds a 2.91 goals against average (GAA) which is ninth-best in the OHL and a .915 save-percentage (SAV%). Windsor's Michael DiPietro has the OHL's best GAA allowing 2.03, including a .937 SAV%.
The Firebirds have three players that have been drafted by NHL teams consisting of Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars), Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Nicholas Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs). Additionally, Dennis Busby, Ty Dellandrea, Hunter Holmes, Ryan Littlejohn and Jack Wismer are five first time eligible players to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft in June 2018.
Two players on the Spitfires' roster have been drafted by NHL teams consisting of Sean Day (New York Rangers) and Michael DiPietro (Vancouver Canucks).
19 notable Spitfires' alumni to play in the NHL are Bryan Bickell, Jack Campbell, Matt Cooke, Peter DeBoer, Steve Downie, Ryan Ellis, Cam Fowler, Adam Graves, Taylor Hall, Adam Henrique, Ed Jovanovski, Claude Julien, Michael Leighton, Eddie Mio, Michal Neuvirth, Steve Ott, Richard Panik, Joel Quenneville and Jason Spezza.
