FRISCO, TX - Coming off an overtime win against the Quad City Steamwheelers, the Frisco Fighters are hosting the Sioux Falls Storm for the first time Saturday night at Comerica Center in Frisco to end the regular 2022 IFL season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Storm is still fighting for a spot in the postseason and have an away record of 3-4 thus far in the season.

Past meetups - Fighters vs Storm

The Fighters and Storm first met earlier this season mid-May in Sioux Falls. After taking the lead in the first five minutes of the game, the Fighters allowed the Storm 20 points in the first half but were able to keep the lead through the duration of the game resulting in a 57-39 win.

The Fighters and Storm met up last season on July 31, 2021 in Sioux Falls. After trailing by four points during the first half of the game, the Fighters fought to comeback with a 25-yard safety and were able to pull out a 37-33 win.

Players to watch

Quarterbacks TJ Edwards and Blake Sims both saw action against the Steamwheelers. In fact, they collectively tallied 238 passing yards and three touchdowns. Edwards had 96 passing yards on nine passes while Sims had 142 passing yards on ten passes (18 attempts) with a long of 34 yards. Sims also picked up three touchdowns from rushing a net of 33 yards.

The Fighters offense rushed collectively for a net of 81 yards, which is almost double the amount the defense allowed the Steamwheelers to rush. Along with these stats, running back Ladarius Galloway rushed for a long of eight yards in his debut with the Fighters.

Wide receivers Jerminic Smith, Sheldon Augustine, and Tyron Laughinghouse all collected a touchdown. Smith received for a total of seven times for 95 yards and a long of 34 yards while Augustine and Laughinghouse collectively received for 102 yards through eight plays.

The Fighters' defense was a dominant force against the Steamwheelers as every defensive player tallied at least one tackle. Defensive lineman Charles Williams tallied six and a half tackles (six solo, one assisted) along with a sack for a loss of seven yards. Defensive backs Michael Lovett and Santos Ramirez both tallied an interception. Linebacker Caleb Bailey collected five and half tackles (five solo, one assisted) and one and a half sacks for a loss of eleven yards.

After a slow start to the matchup and being tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Steamwheelers were able to take the lead going into halftime (24-14). The Fighters fought to comeback and tied the game with a last second 21-yard field goal by kicker Bryce Crawford (37-37). The game went into two overtimes with a Fighters win (50-44).
