
IFL Announces Week Eighteen Players of the Week

The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for Week 18 of the 2022 season. Iowa Running Back, Antonio Wimbush is the Offensive Players of the Week. Northern Arizona Defensive Back, Bill Atkins, earns Defensive Player of the Week. Special Teams Player of the Week goes to Tucson Kick Returner, Benjamin Jones.
Antonio Wimbush - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Iowa Barnstormers are one of three teams that still on the playoff bubble. Each game carrying more weight each week. With that in mind, Iowa went into a hostile Tucson environment to face a playoff caliber team. They came out with a convincing win anchored by Running Back, Antonio Wimbush. When his team needed him most, Wimbush put together one of the best Running Back performances of the season. Iowa only attempted six passes on the night, opting to pound the running game with 25 rushing attempts; 16 of those attempts went to Wimbush. He finished the night with 90 yards on 16 rushes for an average of 5.6 yards per run. Wimbush scored seven rushing touchdowns and also picked up 20 yards on two receptions.
Bill Atkins - DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Northern Arizona had already cliched a playoff spot but were still in the hunt for the top seed in the Western Conference. So, there was no letting up as Bismarck came to town. The defense played well holding Bismarck to just 21 points. Bill Atkins played are large part in that effort. Atkins accumulated 2.5 tackles, one pass breakup and two interceptions. One of which he returned 37 yards for a touchdown.
Benjamin Jones - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tucson has clinched a playoff berth, but they had plenty to play for as the #3 and #4 seeding had yet to be decided. Ultimately, the Sugar Skulls fell short in a 61-48 loss to the Iowa Barnstormers. Even in a loss, Benjamin Jones shined on special teams. Jones returned four kicks for 96 yards, giving him an average of 24 yards per attempt. This includes taking a kick return the full 50 yards for a touchdown.
The final week of the 2023 regular season starts on Friday night as Iowa travels to Quad City with massive playoff implications on the line. 2022 Playoff teams and seeding will be finally decided after the four games on Saturday. Catch all of the action on the IFL YouTube Channel.
