Preview: Fighters vs. Blizzard

FRISCO, TX - Following a huge win against the Iowa Barnstormers last week and clinching a spot in the playoffs, the Frisco Fighters are headed back to Frisco for a three-game home stance to end the 2022 regular season. The Fighters will host the Green Bay Blizzard Saturday night at Comerica Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Blizzard currently have an overall record of 6-8.

Past meetups - Fighters vs Blizzard

The Fighters and Blizzard first met at the beginning of the 2022 season in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After a slow start and scoreless first quarter, the Frisco Fighters were able to rally and score 21 points in the second quarter while keeping the Green Bay Blizzard to seven points. A touchdown from the Blizzard with less than 20 seconds on the clock landed the Fighters down by one point. With the help of kicker Bryce Crawford's field goal, the Fighters were able to come out on top with a 38-36 win.

Last year, these two teams met in Frisco where the Fighters shut the Blizzard out in the second and third quarter. The Blizzard failed to come back after scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter, resulting in a Fighters win (38-20).

Players to watch

Quarterback TJ Edwards arguably played one of his best games so far this season last weekend in Des Moines. Edwards not only completed 16 (20 attempt) passes to get him to 191 yards and two touchdowns, but also collected an additional five rushing touchdowns.

Running back Justin Rankin tallied a total of 53 rushing yards on 13 attempts resulting in two Fighters touchdowns. Throughout the season, Rankin has ran for a total of 624 rushing yards.

With the help from wide receivers Spencer Tears and Jerminic Smith, the Fighters were able to collect an additional two touchdowns. The Fighters offense was able to rush 128 yards and receive for 191 yards.

The Fighters defense was able to keep the Barnstormers to only 93 rushing yards and 62 receiving yards. Defensive lineman Charles Williams made five tackles (four solo, one assisted) while defensive back Cedric Poole had three tackles (two solo, one assisted) and one breakup pass. Defensive back Santos Ramirez made one interception.

The Iowa Barnstormers got on the board in the first minute of the game, but the Fighters retaliated by scoring on their next possession when Smith received an 18-yard pass from Edwards. The Fighters were able to keep the lead for the rest of the game and went into the half up 13 points after a one-yard safety. The Barnstormers fought to comeback, but the Fighters did not let up, resulting in a Fighters win (62-42) while also securing their spot in the 2022 IFL playoffs.
