Preview: FC Tulsa vs. Miami FC - Wednesday, July 12 - Oneok Field, 8 p.m. CT

July 11, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release

TULSA - FC Tulsa has taken care of businesses with wins over Detroit City FC and Indy Eleven in its last two matches. On Wednesday, Tulsa kicks off a three match homestand vs. Miami FC on Indigenous Peoples' Night and will debut its 2023 third kit, the Indigenous Peoples' Kit.

With its six points picked up over its last two outings, FC Tulsa has leapt up in the Eastern Conference standings from 11th to the 8th place playoff spot, trailing Indy by just one point and Birmingham Legion FC by four.

The backline was sensational for FC Tulsa last Saturday night, a performance Blair Gavin wants to see his club build on heading into two consecutive matches against the bottom two clubs in the East - Miami and Hartford Athletic. After conceding 12 goals in its four matches between June 9 and June 30, the Tulsa defense earned its fourth clean sheet of the season, made 26 clearances, and held Indy to just one shot on target in the second half.

With its newfound momentum, FC Tulsa shifts its sights towards 11th place Miami FC on Wednesday. In three meetings, Tulsa has never lost to the side from the 305, posting a 1W-0L-2D record. The only match between the two sides to take place at ONEOK Field resulted in a 0-0 draw on June 4, 2022.

An appearance for Marcus Epps would be another milestone reached for the 28-year-old forward, marking his 150th career USL Championship regular season appearance. Epps has bagged 26 goals and 18 assists over his time in the Championship, including Playoffs, with three MLS goals to boot.

Kickoff from ONEOK Field is set for 8 p.m. CT.

SCOUTING MIAMI FC

Miami FC enters Wednesday's contest with a 3W-8L-7D record, good for 11th place out of 12 in the Eastern Conference. The club broke a three-match losing streak last time out by topping Phoenix Rising FC at home, 2-1. Forward Kyle Murphy scored his club-leading 5th goal of the season in the affair as Murphy now leads his side in goals, assists (2), and shots (19). The club from Florida is winless on the road this season, posting a 0W-5L-3D record outside of Miami in league play and has been shut out in half of those matches.

Overall, Miami FC has taken the second-fewest shots in the USL Championship while conceding the fifth-highest goal total. In addition, Miami is particularly vulnerable in the final 15 minutes of the first half - it has allowed eight scores during that window, the most in the league behind Las Vegas Lights FC.

STAT OF THE MATCH

An early goal could be instrumental to an FC Tulsa win as FC Tulsa is a perfect 3W-0L-0D this season when heading into halftime with the lead. On the other side of the ball, Miami has failed to rescue a single point this season from a losing position with a 0W-7L-0D record when conceding first.
