Found the Scoring Touch: The 2023 Copa Tejas is underway, with SAFC and El Paso tied atop the competition with a point each. The USL Championship leg of the competition is based on head-to-head points between SAFC, El Paso and Rio Grande Valley FC. SAFC narrowly trails El Paso in the Copa Tejas Shield competition as well, which is scored by points per match averages across all Texas-based teams in the USL Championship and League One, as well as MLS NEXT PRO, the NWSL and MLS.
Summer Heat: After back-to-back wins, SAFC is up to second in the USL Championship Western Conference with 31 points. Only Sacramento Republic FC has a higher goal differential, +19 to +15. After finishing the month of June without a win (0-1-3), SAFC has started July off with two wins, a +6 goal differential and a clean sheet.
MVP Form From Tani: Forward Tani Oluiwaseyi has been dominant in his first nine matches with SAFC, already leading the team in both goals (9) and assists (4) while sitting just 13th on the team in minutes played (650). Oluwaseyi sits just one goal and one assist shy of the league lead in both stats, tied for second in goals and seventh in assists. The MLS loanee also earned Player of the Week honors for week 18, in addition to three appearances on the Team of the Week.
