Pregame Primer: Saints Visit Capitols Wednesday for Mid-Week Swing

For the second time in as many games, the Fighting Saints will make the short trek north to Madison to take on the Capitols. Last time out, Dubuque pushed past Madison in overtime with a 3-2 win after Riese Gaber tallied just 21 seconds in to the extra stanza. The Fighting Saints are currently 2-1 this season against the Capitols, with a 3-1 win to go along with their victory on Friday.

-Dubuque's victory over Madison was their lone game of the weekend. It was just the second time this season that Dubuque had played a one game weekend. The other occurred week two of the USHL season, when Dubuque dropped a 3-2 contest in overtime to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

-All three games this season against the Capitols have come down to the third period, or in the last game's case, overtime. The first time the two played, Madison scored with less than five minutes to play to win the game. The following game between the two, Dubuque scored three third period goals for a come from behind win.

-Madison has lost three straight games by one goal and they have also lost three straight at home. The Capitols have rarely been blown out this season, but the offense has struggled to make a difference. The Capitols have yet to score more than four goals in a game this year.

-Dubuque is currently locked in a tight battle With Youngstown and Cedar Rapids for the third and fourth place in the east. Dubuque is currently tied with Youngstown at 40 points and Cedar Rapids has 38 but also has two games in hand on both the Phantoms and the Fighting Saints.

-Dubuque is third in the league in road points this season. The Fighting Saints have 26 points away from Mystique Community Ice Center. Dubuque's 11 wins are tied for third in the league on the road. The Fighting Saints are 5-2-2-1 on the road in their last 10 games.

-Dubuque boasts the fourth best power play in the league at 22.3% overall. The Fighting Saints have had a man advantage over 20% for largely the entire season. The issues have risen on the penalty kill for the Fighting Saints as they sit last in the league in that department.

-Matias Maccelli produced his third three point game of the season in the Fighting Saints 3-2 win over Madison. It was the second time that one of his three point games where he factored in to every goal. Maccelli scored on the power play and assisted on the other two goals. He is fourth in the league with 46 points.

-Chase Brand has been a consistent producer for Madison over the past three weeks. He has five points in the last five games and has given Madison a consistent form of offense, which they have been lacking. Brand is the leading scorer for Madison, with 21 points.

-The Fighting Saints will have two more games after their Wednesday night matchup with Madison. Dubuque will visit Cedar Rapids Friday, before finishing their three game week against Fargo on Saturday.
