CHARLESTON, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws (1-1) took an early lead, but fell to the West Virginia Power (1-1) 11-7, Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. The loss dropped Lakewood to 2-8 through the first 10 games of the 24-game season series against the Power.

With the game tied at 5-5 in the fifth, the Power notched six runs against Geoff Broussard and the BlueClaws. The righty allowed back-to-back singles to lead off the frame before DJ Crumlich doubled to right and scored Josh Bell to give the Power the 6-5 lead.

Two batters later it was Walker Gourley that plated a pair with a single to center and the lead was 8-5. The scoring was capped off in a big way courtesy of a three-run blast off the bat of Barrett Barnes. The centerfielder's second home run of the game was a blast to left that put the game out of reach for Lakewood at 11-5.

West Virginia's Bryton Trepagnier was outstanding in relief and pitched three innings of scoreless relief before he was lifted for Pat Ludwig. Ludwig gave up a run to the Claws in the 8th on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Tocci to pull the Claws within five at 11-6. Jhondaniel Medinah was tagged for a run in the ninth, but ultimately closed out the game on the mound for West Virginia.

For the second night in a row, the BlueClaws jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Brian Pointer got the rally going with a one out single and scored when Mitch Walding followed with a double to left. The second run scored in the form of Walding on Willie Carmona's single to right.

The Power didn't wait long to bounce back, and scored a pair of runs in the home half of the first. All-Star second baseman Dilson Herrera took Jonathan Musser deep for a solo shot with one out that cut the Claws lead in half.

Josh Bell made his first appearance of the second half and doubled behind the Herrera homer. Jordan Steranka picked up his first hit and RBI on a single that followed Bell's double and scored the DH to make it 2-2.

West Virginia didn't stop there and took the lead on a walk, a hit and an error in the second frame. Kawika Emsley-Pai drew the walk against Musser and Walding's throwing error put two on with one out. Barrett Barnes drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single to left that scored Emsley-Pai and put the Power ahead 3-2.

The BlueClaws headed into the third down 3-2, but put three runs on the board and took a two-run lead. Art Charles and Willie Carmona sparked the rally with a one-out walk and double to right, respectively, which tied the game at 3-3.

Larry Greene, Jr. followed and put the Claws in front with an RBI single that plated Carmona from second. West Virginia's John Kuchno labored in the frame and hit the next two hitters. Alejandro Villalobos capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI fielder's choice to make it 5-3.

Once again, the BlueClaws lead did not last very long, as the Power came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one on and two out it was Barnes that hit a two-run shot to deep left field, off of Musser, that plated Emsley-Pai and tied the game at 5-5.

Neither starter factored into the decision for their respective sides.

Musser tossed the first four frames for the BlueClaws and allowed five runs, all earned on five hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Broussard (2-2) took the loss and the brunt of the Power's attack. The righty allowed the six runs in the fifth on five hits, a walk and a strikeout.

Kuchno lasted just the first three innings and gave up five runs, all earned, on six hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Trepagnier (2-2) earned the win in relief and tossed three perfect innings.

Deborah Heart and Lung Center Player of the Game: Barrett Barnes (WV): 3-5, 2HR, 6RBI, 2R
