Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- One consistent thing for the Rockford IceHogs this season has been the inconsistency of the club's power play. Well, the team began to shake out the funk on Friday night, tying a team single-game record with four power-play markers in a 6-2 win over the Port Huron Flags in front of 3,203 at the Rockford MetroCentre.

The IceHogs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead to set the tone. Winger Chaz Johnson started the scoring when he potted his 11th goal of the season at 3:05 of the opening frame. The power play burst, then began as winger Robin Big Snake hammered home a rebound past Port Huron goalie Noah Ruden at 5:03 of the first. Later, center Mike Doyle shelved his ninth goal of the season at 7:09 on the power play, putting Rockford up by three.

Port Huron narrowed the gap before the first intermission. Winger Garett Cameron slid in his team-leading 13th goal of the season by Hogs goalie Jake Moreland at 9:19, making the score 3-1. Winger Robert Snowball shot home the Flags second marker of the contest at 17:50, making the game a one goal affair at the break.

That was as close as the Flags would get as Rockford pulled away with three unanswered goals in the final two periods. Center Kevin Ulanski ripped home his 10th of the season on the power play in the second frame at 15:25. In the third period the Hogs tacked on two more as winger Jesse Bennefield beat Ruden at 2:41 before Ulanski's second of the game at 14:36.

Rockford outshot the Flags 39-26. Moreland got the win making 17 saves, but had to leave the game with an injury in the third period. Special teams were a huge factor in the game as Rockford went 4-for-8 on the power play while holding the Flags to 0-for-6.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Jan. 13 vs. Quad City Mallards. The rivalry resumes at 7:05 p.m. Rockford and Quad City clash at the Rockford MetroCentre once again. Saturday is one of the IceHogs most popular giveaway nights as Wireless One, WXRX-104.9 FM and WIFR present Hat Night for the first 1,000 fans to the MetroCentre.
