Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings and Calgary Hitmen combined for 14 power plays during Tuesday night's game at the Scotiabank Saddledome. But the home team converted once more with the man advantage, and it proved to be the difference, as the Hitmen emerged with a 3-2 victory.

Jimmy Bubnick scored two goals - one on the power play - and added an assist to lead the Hitmen past the Oil Kings, who fell to 8-14-0-1 on the season with the defeat against the similarly struggling Calgary squad that improved to 6-16-1-0. Jordan Hickmott and Michael St. Croix found the back of the net for the Oil Kings in the loss.

Nathan MacMaster opened the scoring for the Hitmen with their first power-play goal with 9:51 left in the opening frame, and Bubnick made it 2-0 with the man advantage with the lone goal of the second period. Edmonton finally solved goalie Michael Snider with 14:45 left in the third, as Dylan Wruck fed a pass from behind the net to Hickmott, who one-timed his 50th career WHL goal.

The Oil Kings were peppering Snider with shots to no avail midway through the frame when Bubnick burst back the other way with two other Hitmen and called his own number, going top shelf on goalie Laurent Brossoit to make it 3-1. Edmonton got its power-play goal with 2:52 to go, as Josh Lazowski won the face-off back to Griffin Reinhart, who blasted a slap shot off the crossbar, and St. Croix batted in the airborne puck for his team-leading 12th of the season.

The Oil Kings played most of the final two minutes with Brossoit on the bench in favour of an extra attacker, but Snider stood his ground to post a 29-save victory. For the third straight game, Brossoit was solid between the Edmonton pipes, making 27 saves in a losing cause on Tuesday.

The provincial rivals square off back at Rexall Place in Edmonton on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for another edition of K-97 and 96.3 Capital FM Wiener Wednesdays, where hot dogs are just $2 all night long. The Oil Kings' Hot To Huddle Grey Cup Growwwl is coming up on Friday night with a 7 p.m. game against the Vancouver Giants. The Oil Kings will be wearing their Grey Cup Growwwl jerseys that night, and the game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off for the Oil Kings Education Association. There will also be a Punt, Pass, Kick competition, with one fan winning $1,000 in groceries from the Oil Kings and Save-On-Foods.
