
Power Play Goals Push Huntsville Past RiverKings

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- With a pair of quick second period goals the Mississippi RiverKings (16-19-6) tied the game at two, but ultimately fell to the Louisiana Ice Gators (24-10-4) 4-2 on home ice Friday night.
The IceGators got the offense started with 9:32 remaining in the first period. Right on the doorstep of Matthew Krahn, Matt Robertson netted his 21st goal of the season to give Louisiana a one-goal lead they carried into the first intermission.
In the second period of play, the IceGators added to their lead. Troy O'fukany's quick rediriect in front of the net, while on the power play, gave Louisiana a two goal-lead 5:14 into the second period. But the RiverKings responded. At the 14:07 mark of the second period, Todd Hosmer's pass to Matt Whitehead beat Riley Gill high glove side to cut the 'Gators' lead by one. Forty-nine seconds later, Brian Yanovitch's quick shot beat Gill five hole to tie the game at two. But the Ice Gators took a one-goal lead into the second intermission. With only 17 seconds remaining in the second, Shawn McNeil picked up a loose puck that Krahn thought he had covered to take 3-2 lead late in the second period.
In the third period, the Ice Gators took another two-goal lead when O'fukany netted his second of the night with 13:09 remaining in the final period of play. The Ice Gators held off the 'Kings for the remainder of the game, handing the RiverKings their second straight loss on home ice.
Matthew Krahn (8-12-2) stopped 24 of 28 shots against in the loss. Riley Gill (21-8-3) turned aside 23 of 25 shots against in his 21st win of the season.
Following tonight's game, the RiverKings hit the road to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths tomorrow night.
