Louisiana Goaltender Riley Gill Sets New Shutout Record

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 8, 2013) - Louisiana IceGators goaltender Riley Gill set a new SPHL record Thursday night with his fifth shutout of the season as he blanked the Mississippi Surge 2-0.
Gill broke the previous single-season record of four, shared by Dan McWhinney (Huntsville, 2010-11), Bill Zaniboni (Mississippi Surge, 2009-10) and Chad Colllins (Fayetteville, 2004-05).
Gill also became the seventh goaltender in league history to record two consecutive shutouts, having blanked the Surge on Tuesday, 3-0.
A four-year standout at Western Michigan University, Gill finished his collegiate career with the highest save percentage (0.915), most shutouts (8) and second-best goals against average (2.94) in school history. He also holds the single-season school record for save percentage (0.923), set during his senior year. Gill currently leads all SPHL goaltenders in wins (21), shutouts (5), shootout wins (4) and minutes played (1934:47) and is third in the league with a 2.23 goals against average and 0.926 save percentage.
