POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost 5-4 to Delmarva last night in 19 innings. The Power led 3-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, keyed by a Matt Curry home run, but Mikey Planeta tied the game with a solo shot off Zac Fuesser to send the game to extra innings. Each team scored a run in the 12th inning, and the bullpens kept the opposing offenses at bay. In the bottom of the 19th, Planeta led off with a double and eventually scored on an error to give the Shorebirds the win. Casey Sadler, the fifth Power pitcher of the night, took the loss.
HISTORY MADE: Last night'sgame was the longest in the history of the Power franchise. The 19 inning surpassed the previous marathon of 17 innings, an 8-5 win at Lexington on April 27, 2007. Last night's game last five hours and five minutes, the first game in team history to last over five hours without any type of delay.
LONG GAME RUNNING: West Virginia and Delmarva played 19 inning last night after having played a total of 18 during the first two games of this series. Power batters were credited with 64 at bats last night, compared to 66 combined over the first two games. The game was also the longest (innings-wise) this season for any two teams in the South Atlantic League.
GOING STREAKING: Matt Curry's hitting streak has reached nine games after last night's 2-5 performance. No Power player had hit safely in more than six consecutive games prior to Curry's current stretch, where he is batting .484 with two home runs and eight runs batted in.
FOR THE BIRDS: The Power conclude this series against the Shorebirds tonight and return home tomorrow. West Virginia trails the all-time set 41-37, and have only gone 10-23 at Delmarva since 2005. The Power took 10 of 18 last season, but only won once in five games at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. West Virginia and Delmarva will meet eight more times this season after today, including the final five days of the regular slate.
EXTRA EXTRA: Friday night's game was the second extra inning game this week for the Power. Prior to Monday's game against Lakewood, West Virginia was the only team across the entire South Atlantic League that had not played extra innings in any game this year.
FOSTER PROMOTED: The Pittsburgh Pirates promoted Zach Foster to the Bradenton Marauders roster on Thursday prior to West Virginia's game at Delmarva. Foster was 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA for the Power this season, and went 6-5 for West Virginia dating back to last season. Pittsburgh added Victor Black to the Power roster to fill the void in the bullpen. Black pitched in two games for the Power last year before spendingthe remainder of the season in the disabled list, going 0-0 with a 9.64 ERA.
PINPOINT CONTROL: West Virginia pitchers have combined to walk just 93 batters this season, by far the fewest in the league. In fact, Power pitchers have walked the fewest batters in all of professional baseball. No other team in the Minors or Majors is even under 100 free passes issued.
POWER POINTS: Kawika Emsley-Pai's hitting streak was snapped at six game yesterday with an 0-6 night. The catcher's on base streak is still in tact at 18 straight after two walks... The Power will make up the May 3 rainout against Greensboro on June 14 at 5:30 pm as part of a doubleheader.
