BlueClaws Crush Greensboro 13-1, Win 3rd Straight

LAKEWOOD, NJ - For the first time in 2011, the Lakewood BlueClaws are 2 games over .500 after their blowout 13-1 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Saturday night. Lakewood used another fantastic start from their ace David Buchanan, and they pounded out 12 hits in picking up the victory. Shane Victorino was making the first of his 2 injury rehab appearances for the BlueClaws this weekend. He started in CF and hit lead off, and finished the game 1-2 with a single, a walk, and 2 RBI's. He will suit up for Lakewood again tomorrow.

The win gives Lakewood a 3 game win streak, and the 3-1 series win over Greensboro. David Buchanan picked up the win for Lakewood, his 7th victory of the season which is tops in the South Atlantic League. He tossed 7 innings, allowed just 1 unearned run on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. Buchanan's ERA is now down to 1.97 on the season, which is also tops in the SAL. Tyler Knigge and Juan Sosa each pitched in with 1 inning of scoreless relief.

Domingo Santana was the star of the night for Lakewood offensively going 4-5 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Jim Murphy smacked his 13th HR of the season in the 8th inning off of Greensboro Utility Infielder Joe Bonadonna who pitched the 8th inning. Murphy's HR is his 27th in a BlueClaws uniform, tops all-time in franchise history. It also gives him the lead in the SAL in HR's this season with 13. Cameron Rupp reached base 4 times with 3 walks and an RBI Double while scoring 2 runs.

Lakewood will continue their 7-game home stand with the first of 3 games against the Delmarva Shorebirds on Sunday. LHP Jesse Biddle will get the start for the BlueClaws, and RHP Scott Copeland will throw for Delmarva. It is the final night of 3 straight with Post-game Fireworks for Memorial Day Weekend thanks to Toyota/Scion World of Lakewood, and First Pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
