
'Dads fall to RiverDogs, 6-3, in series finale

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads were topped by the Charleston RiverDogs, 6-3, before 2,992 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday night.
The RiverDogs (22-27) took the game's first lead with a run in the top of the second against RHP Nick Tepesch (L, 0-3). With two down and no one on, RF Eduardo Sosa worked a walk to extend the inning. C Francisco Arcia followed with an RBI double to deep right-center field, scoring Sosa all the way from first for the 1-0 RiverDogs lead.
The Crawdads (26-22) responded right away to tie the game in the bottom of the second against RHP Mikey O'Brien (W, 3-3). On the first pitch of the frame, 3B Christian Villanueva belted a solo homer over the left field wall to even the score, 1-1.
Hickory continued the charge with a run in each of the next two innings, opening up a multi-run lead. SS Jurickson Profar led off the third inning with a double and quickly advanced to third on a C Tomas Telis single. DH Josh Richmond then drove a sacrifice fly to center, enabling Profar to come home for the 2-1 lead.
The 'Dads expanded the lead with an unearned run against O'Brien in the fourth. Villanueva started the inning by reaching on a throwing error and then stole his way to second base. LF Jake Skole and RF Jhonny Gomez followed with consecutive walks, loading the bases with no one out for 2B Odubel Herrera. Herrera bounced into a double play, but also brought Villanueva in from third to make it a 3-1 lead for Hickory.
After Tepesch retired seven in a row, Charleston responded with four runs to come back and take the lead in the top of the fifth. Arcia worked a walk to start the frame and moved to third on a double by SS Jose Mojica. Both runners came in on back-to-back RBI ground outs to second by CF Slade Heathcott and 2B Anderson Feliz, squaring the score and putting two outs on the board. 3B Rob Segedin kept the inning alive with a single, then trotted home on a two-run shot by 1B Kyle Roller, powering the RiverDogs ahead, 5-3.
Charleston added a final insurance run in the sixth, before receiving scoreless relief from RHP Manny Barreda in the seventh and eighth and RHP Kelvin Perez (S, 4) in the ninth to close the 6-3 win for the RiverDogs.
