Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, SC, August 20, 2013): The West Virginia Power dropped the first game of the road trip to the Charleston RiverDogs by a 3-2 final Tuesday evening at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark in 11 innings. In the 11th, Charleston's Greg Bird hit a double down the left field line, scoring Jose Rosario in walk-off fashion.
The RiverDogs plated the first run of the game in the fourth inning. With one-out, Bird hit a solo home run to left that gave Charleston a 1-0 lead.
Francisco Diaz collected two RBI's in the ballgame. In the fifth, Diaz hit a single to left that scored Luis Urena, who hit a one-out double prior to the Diaz hit. After the RiverDogs scored another run in the fifth to take a 2-1 advantage, Urena hit a one-out triple in the seventh and crossed home on a Diaz double down the left field line. That hit by Diaz was the fifth and final hit of the ballgame for the Power offense.
Jhondaniel Medina (2-2) took the loss but pitched effectively. With runners on second and first with two outs in the ninth, Medina walked the first batter and survived the inning on a fielder's choice, then struck out the side in the 10th before allowing the walkoff in the 11th. Jose Campos (3-2) received the win for the RiverDogs.
The Power and RiverDogs continue their three-game series Wednesday night. The Power will send Jason Creasy to the mound and he will face southpaw Daniel Camarena. First pitch for Wednesday's game is set for 7:05.
Overall Record: 72-55
Second Half Record: 35-22
