Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV, May 7, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Greenville Drive 4-2 Tuesday evening at Appalachian Power Park. Tyler Glasnow struck out a career-high ten batters and allowed only one hit in six innings.
West Virginia scored their first two runs in the bottom of the second off Greenville starter Pat Light. Wyatt Mathisen led off the inning by reaching on an error. D.J. Crumlich and Raul Fortunato each reached on singles to make the bases loaded. Walker Gourley brought home Mathisen by walking on five pitches. With the bases still loaded, Crumlich scored on an RBI groundout by Ashley Ponce.
The Power added another run in the third inning. Josh Bell led off the inning with a single and scored on a Fortunato single to center. Greenville added one run in the fifth to make the score 3-1.
The Drive cut the Power lead to one run in the eighth inning when Drew Turocy scored on a fielder's choice by Kevin Mager. West Virginia tallied an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning when Max Moroff hit an RBI single that scored Fortunato from second.
Tyler Glasnow (2-0) earned his second career victory by striking out a team-high 10 strikeouts. He allowed only one hit in the fifth inning. Pat Light (1-2) took the loss; allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits. Pat Light earned his first save of the season.
The Power and Drive will conclude their four-game series Wednesday with a doubleheader. Game one will be at 10:30am with Joely Rodriguez pitching for West Virginia against Cody Kukuk. Game two will feature Orlando Castro on the mound for West Virginia against a pitcher to be announced for Greenville.
