Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (10-21) broke a scoreless tie in the seventh and held on late to take the final game of the four game set against the Lexington Legends (15-17) 1-0, Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park. The win snaps a four game losing streak for the 'Claws and a six game winning streak for the Legends.
After six scoreless frames, it was Chace Numata playing hero for Lakewood in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and runners at first and second the catcher came up and laced a double down the left field line that plated Larry Greene, Jr. and gave the BlueClaws the 1-0 lead.
That would be all the run support the pitchers would get, or need. Nicholas Hanson took the ball in his second start of the season and delivered six more scoreless frames. The righty has compiled 11-shutout innings in his two starts this season.
After the sixth it was Delvi Francisco that silenced the Legends over two frames, before Steven Inch came on for the ninth.
Miguel Almonte took the hill for Lexington and pitched six scoreless before the one run ninth. He took the tough-luck loss and dropped to 1-4 on the season. Chas Byrne came on and pitched the final inning and one-third in scoreless fashion,
For Lakewood, Francisco earned his first win of the season with his two frames and Steven Inch earned his third save of the season.
Numata's outstanding night began in the first inning when he hosed Raul Mondesi stealing second. That was the first of three caught stealing for the catcher on the night. He picked up another in the fourth and the third in the fifth. Numata has now thrown out 19 of 59 attempted baserunners through the first 31 games.
