Rome, GA - The Rome Braves and Hagerstown Suns split a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon 1-0, 1-0, in front of 4,554 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
Hagerstown took the first game 1-0. The Suns scored their lone run in the third inning when Will Piwnica-Worms walked and later scored on a double off the bat of Pedro Severino. Rome pitching only allowed two hits and one earned run in game one. Rome starter Patrick Scoggin (2-3) got the tough luck loss while Hagerstown's Ivan Pineyro (2-2) got the victory.
Game two saw great pitching by both sides but it was Rome cracking the scoreboard in the fifth when Carlos Franco reached on a throwing error. Franco stole second and scored on a Tyler Tewell base hit. Three Rome pitchers combined for the shutout allowing just two hits and striking out eight. Braves starter Frank LaFreniere (3-0) is the winner, while Pedro Encarnacion (2-2) is tagged with the loss.
The Braves hit the road until May 16th to begin a seven game home stand with Asheville and Augusta. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
