Greenville Drive News Release

Due to weather concerns in West Virginia, the Greenville Drive (10-20) and West Virginia Power (14-16) played just one game on Tuesday night instead of the scheduled doubleheader. The Drive will be thankful to have two chances on Wednesday to end their losing skid, as Tuesday brought about a 4-2 loss to the Power. The Drive have now lost five straight games.

The Power took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second against Drive starter Pat Light (1-2). Three consecutive singles to begin the frame loaded the bases, and Light followed by issuing a free pass to Walker Gourley to bring home the first run. Ashley Ponce then hit a groundout to second that plated the second runner.

West Virginia added a single run in the third as Josh Bell led off with a single, advanced to second on an error and came in to score on a two-out RBI single from Raul Fortunato.

The Drive cut the lead to 3-1 in the fifth, as Kevin Mager drew a leadoff walk against Tyler Glasnow (2-0) and scored from first with one out when Jayson Hernandez lined an RBI double to left.

They added another run in the top of the eighth with Bryton Trepagnier on the mound. Drew Turocy began the inning with a single and advanced to third when Aneury Tavarez singled two batters later. Tavarez promptly swiped second base, but he was thrown out trying to advance to third on Mager's groundball to shortstop. The fielder's choice did score Turocy, however, to trim the Power's lead to one run.

West Virginia added an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth against Madison Younginer. Fortunato walked with one out, and Gourley followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Two batters later, Max Moroff singled to bring home Fortunato.

Glasnow picked up the victory by allowing just one hit and one run in five innings while punching out 10 Drive batters. Pat Ludwig worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save of the year. Despite the loss, the Drive got a terrific outing in relief from JB Wendelken, who worked four scoreless frames while allowing only two hits.

Bell, Fortunato and Junior Sosa all collected a pair of hits for West Virginia, while Mookie Betts and Hernandez each had two hits for Greenville.

The two teams will wrap up their four-game series in West Virginia tomorrow with a pair of seven-inning games. Game one will begin at 10:30 AM, with game two scheduled to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The game one pitching matchup will be LHP Cody Kukuk (2-2, 3.63) for the Drive against RHP Clay Holmes (1-3, 6.00) for the Power, while the game two starters are RHP Jason Garcia (2-1, 3.60) for the Drive and LHP Joely Rodriguez (1-2, 4.06) for the Power.
