Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Potomac scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to claim a 3-2 victory over Lynchburg at Pfitzner Stadium Tuesday afternoon. The Hillcats and P-Nats will meet in the third game of a four-game series on Wednesday at Pfitzner Stadium at 7:05 p.m.

Lynchburg broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the third. Chase d'Arnaud hit a one-out single and scored when Lastings Milledge laced an RBI double into left field. Milledge took third base when Jordy Mercer singled off Potomac starter Jeff Mandel. Matt Hague's grounder to third produced a run when Hague reached on an error by Potomac's Stephen King, which gave the Cats a 2-0 advantage.

The P-Nats cut the lead in half when Dmitri Young belted a solo home run off Lynchburg starter Justin Wilson to start the bottom of the fourth inning.

Potomac evened the score an inning later. King connected for a one-out single and he scored on Dan Nelson's RBI double, which knotted the score at 2-2.

The Cats wasted a scoring opportunity in the top of the sixth. Hague and Kris Watts reached on consecutive singles to begin the inning. A sacrifice bunt by Jared Keel put runners at second and third with one out. But Hague was erased trying to score when Alex Presley hit into a fielder's choice.

Presley advanced to second and Watts took third on the play. After Mandel was lifted for Chris Rivera, Eric Fryer drew a walk from Rivera to load the bases with two outs. But Rivera got Jose De Los Santos to ground out to Nelson at second and end the Lynchburg threat.

The game developed into a battle of the bullpens as Wilson and Mandel left with the contest still tied at 2-2. Rivera tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for Potomac while Moises Robles worked a scoreless frame for Lynchburg.

Potomac ended the stalemate by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth. After Cats reliever Harrison Bishop retired Michael Burgess to begin the inning, Chris Marrero reached on an errant throw by Mercer. The error put Marrero at second base and P-Nats manager Trent Jewett inserted Brian Peacock as a pinch runner for Marrero. Peacock scored the winning run when Jesus Valdez delivered an RBI single.

Bishop (1-3) was charged with the loss for Lynchburg while Potomac's Atahualpa Severino (4-0) picked up the win. Milledge went 1-for-5 with an RBI double and scored a run for Lynchburg. He also struck out twice.

Lynchburg will begin its quest to salvage a split of the four-game series when the two teams meet Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
