Frederick Keys News Release
The Frederick Keys had to come from behind twice to defeat the Kinston Indians on Tuesday night. The Keys did so, downing the K-Tribe 7-5.
Kinston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. With one on and one down, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall cracked his 15th homerun of the season, his second in as many nights.
The lead didn't last long. With one on and two down in the Keys half of the first, RF Robbie Widlansky drilled a two-run homer to right field, his third of the season, tying the game at two.
Frederick took its first lead of the ball game in the second. With runners on second and third and two down, SS Pedro Florimon hit a sharp grounder to short. K-Tribe SS Ronald Rivas booted the ball, allowing the go-ahead run to score. The very next batter, 2B Ryan Adams, chopped a ball to Rivas at short. This time, he fielded it cleanly but threw low to first. The throwing error allowed a second run to score, giving Frederick a 4-2 lead.
Kinston cut the deficit in half in the third. With runners on the corners and two down, Frederick starter RHP Sean Gleason balked. It knocked in a run, and made it a 4-3 ball game.
Gleason exited after the fifth. He allowed three runs, all earned on four hits.
Into the game came Baltimore Orioles rehabber RHP Dennis Sarfate. With runners on first and second and two down in the sixth, Sarfate got LF Lucas Montero to hit a high pop-up to shallow right. Adams went out from second but couldn't make the catch. Two runs scored, giving the K-Tribe a 5-4 lead.
The Keys took the lead back in the seventh. The Keys loaded the bases for CF Tyler Henson. He worked the count full, fouling off many a two-strike pitch, before drawing a walk, knocking in the tying run. Matt Angle then came into the game to pinch-hit for LF Kraig Binick. He too worked a bases loaded walk, giving Frederick the lead. DH Wally Crancer lifted a sac fly to left, scoring another run.
Sarfate ended up getting the win for Frederick. The O's reliever went two innings and allowed two runs, both earned, on two hits. He walked one and struck out two. RHP Chen-Chang Lee took the loss. He's now 3-4. RHP Joe Esposito pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth for his first Carolina League save.
These two clubs will meet in game three of a four-game series Wednesday night at Harry Grove Stadium. LHP Rick Zagone will be on the hill for the Keys. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
